Classical Drawing & Oil Painting Classes in Florence
Hui Fine Art offers private art instruction and focused workshops in Florence, Tuscany for students who want serious atelier-style training in classical realism, observational drawing, charcoal, and traditional oil painting.
Atelier-Style Instruction in Classical Realism
I offer private instruction and focused group workshops dedicated to the rigorous techniques of 19th-century European academic art. Rooted in the traditions of the historic Florentine ateliers, my curriculum is designed to guide dedicated artists through the foundational disciplines of classical drawing and traditional oil painting.
The curriculum follows a strict, time-honored progression. Students begin by mastering accurate optical observation through Charles Bargue plate drawings in pencil. Training then advances to charcoal to build a rigorous understanding of form and value, before finally culminating in the traditional indirect oil painting methods of the Old Masters.
Classical Drawing Classes
Drawing instruction focuses on proportion, line, shape design, value control, and careful visual measurement. Students may study Bargue plates, cast drawing, portrait drawing, and figure-based exercises to build the discipline required for classical realist work.
Traditional Oil Painting Workshops
Oil painting workshops introduce students to the slow and structured process of traditional painting. Lessons may include grisaille, underpainting, layered color, edges, form modeling, and indirect painting techniques inspired by European academic and Old Master methods.
